The better ferrules are sealed with an o-ring which helps prevent water entry into the cable.

I'm not a fan of the stock Shimano shifter cable/housing combo. I don't think it's teflon-lined like most higher quality cable housings (correct me if I'm wrong? I'm not certain), so any moisture that freezes will freeze against the coiled steel housing, not the teflon liner. Frozen moisture less likely to cause binding against the teflon liner.

I ditched the stock housing that came with my wife's Shimano 8-speed IGH in favor of Jagwire housing. No problems so far, but she doesn't ride in sub-freezing temps, so I can't comment on the freeze resistance. However, I used to experience cable freezing until I realized how much of a difference high quality housing and ferules make. I've never had a problem since (it's been five years), and I ride in just about any temperature. somervillainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13903377050982678550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8356723782465446786.post-21644463454786858422013-01-23T06:35:06.753-05:002013-01-23T06:35:06.753-05:00WD 40 may work as well. After all, the "WD" used to stand for "Water Displacement."Steve Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13650405341304401203noreply@blogger.com
