Who woulda guessed?
I ended up having my adjustable cup bottom bracket replaced this spring after having the old adj cup corrode in place, even though I regreased and adjusted it in the fall. Personally, I'd wait until you have problems with you current set-up before switching. But I can be kind a cheapskate.
MarkAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8356723782465446786.post-31879550604233680812011-10-25T10:29:31.246-04:002011-10-25T10:29:31.246-04:00If you went with a modern 3 piece crank set for Gi...If you went with a modern 3 piece crank set for Gilbert, have you figured out what cranks will clear the chaincase? They've held up fine for two years (haven't had to replace the bottom brackets yet, though I've had them out for other adjustments).

On one bike, I also refaced the BB shell down to 68mm, on the other I didn't and used spacers and a 73mm bottom bracket.

Another Raleigh-lover I know did the same thing, except filled in the old threads with brass before cutting the new threads.

I know my method probably wouldn't be recommended by any bike mechanic except myself. Just so you know there is an alternative to Phil Wood.jefehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02592604916786476865noreply@blogger.com
