That feeling

You know that feeling you get when you've been driving uphill and all of a sudden your ears pop and you can hear more clearly?   You weren't necessarily uncomfortable,  but as soon as they pop you feel so much better?

That's how I felt at lunch when I got on my bike for the first time in almost a week-  It just felt so right - hip angle to knee, push to pedal under the ball of my foot.

I wasn't necessarily uncomfortable, but I feel so much better now!

I'm pretending that we're not actually going to get snow tomorrow.....

  1. Very interesting way to put it. Maybe a connection with the inner ear and balance makes this analogy even better than you intended!

  4. I know that feeling! Yesterday was the first day back on a bike for me in over a week, and it felt GREAT!

However, I also have to admit that I found particular satisfaction with taking 40 minutes to walk home from work the other day... something I've never done (without a bike I've ALWAYS taken the T). I found the brisk walk to be quite soothing and relaxing, and I arrived home in a very tranquil mood. But it still wasn't as good as biking :).

Today? Back on the T. Hmph!

  5. Damn, I wish I could give all of you some additional encouragement. February always seems to be the toughest month for winter around here. Too many accumulated days of cold and no real thaw on the horizon.

Today wasn't too bad, imho, though I started my commute late because I was out at past my bedtime last night, so the impact of narrow streets on morning traffic wasn't too pronounced. The rain and warmish weekend has cleared out a bunch of the snow, so the commute wasn't any worse than a typical rainy fall ride.

The snow outside doesn't look that bad so far. At least it doesn't seem to be accumulating.

  6. So far your pretending seems to be working. Out my window so far it still looks like rain, though it's supposed to get colder later.

  7. Isn't it an incredible feeling? I'm a grinning fool and my colleagues are even responding to my infectious good humor - what a beautiful (crummy) day it is today!!!!

  8. I kind of felt that way today for an entirely different reason. Snow here tomorrow.

  9. Yep, I know that feeling. It's looking like it will be next week before we get rid of the frigid weather and snow here. It's been over week since I've ridden, and wouldn't you know it.

The long term weather forecast for Springfield calls for really nice weather next week. When I'm in Colorado to play in the snow!

  10. btw, I saw this neat word cloud for bike commuting on one of The Atlantic's blogger sites. It seemed apropos for your general themes on how cycling can be good for the soul.
