I've been waiting with bated breath for Blogger to come back up, because I JUST learned about a tweed ride on Saturday. It's very short notice, and I have a really busy weekend, but I'm going to try to make it, and I thought others might also not have heard about it (it's not terribly well publicized I'm afraid).
What information I've been able to find:
Ride starts at Lowell Park at the corner of Brattle and Fresh Pond Parkway at 11AM. This is not a car parking friendly location FYI, so I would strongly suggest riding to the start. The intention is to ride to the Newton Waterworks museum, tour the museum (sounds like they may be waiving admission fee if you're on the bike, but I'm not 100% on that). There will be a stop somewhere on the way home at a pub for socializing and fun. Scheduled for 11AM to 5pm.
Oh MAN. I am sooo mad B is working sat or I would be there. Bike ride check. and waterworks museum! Double check. I wish I was getting married or something b/c I want a big party there so badly.
ReplyDeletehave fun. Take tons of pics?
There are so many things going on for Bike month its hard to keep track. I had planned to go to last weekends tweed ride, but decided not to because of the thunderstorms.
ReplyDeleteI'll be at this one, and NOAA says it will be a nice day!
Thanks for the post yesterday about the quick fix and the tip about lock-tite - I spent most of the day trying to remember what I desperately need it for - the adjustment bolt on my Brooks Flyer constantly is loosening up.

While I always encourage people to go with riding to the start, if you have a Cambridge resident sticker, I think it's possible for you to park at the Fresh Pond reservoir lots near Kingsley Park just off the parkway, and then take the bike path to Huron Ave, coming into Lowell Park from the north via Lake View or Lexington.
ReplyDeleteNon Cantabrigians can probably park in the Fresh Pond Mall and come in again over the bike path, though I don't know if any time restrictions are strictly enforced. When in doubt, there's also the Alewife parking garage, as well as the pay lots in Harvard Square, but unless you're coming in from the 'burbs, at that point, you might as well ride from the start.
Have fun! I'm managing the Boston Brevet Series 400k tomorrow so will be otherwise preoccupied, but someday I hope to make it out to one of these.
Well I posted it in The Tweed Ride Report some time back! I've come to the conclusion that the rides that get the word out with plenty of advance notice have more of a chance building buzz and excitement - more people find out and make plans to attend that way!
ReplyDeleteCheck out The Tweed Ride Report
Wait, what happened to the Tweed Ride to Lexington, for the Lost Cyclist reading at the Ride Studio Cafe?..
ReplyDeleteThe resolute few enjoyed a pleasurable ride to the Waterworks Museum where both 19th century water pumps and 20th century bicycles were admired.
ReplyDeleteFood and Drinks followed at The Abbey.

Velouria - The ride/reading was cancelled due to rain. It will be rescheduled soon(so I was told). I'm dying to get to the Waterworks Museum.
ReplyDeleteI for one always hear about these things too late--where are they posted and why don't they seem to be a little more tied in with other Boston bike events/groups?
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteMany events are listed in the event calenders on the right hand side of both http://bostonbiker.org and http://bostoncyclistsunion.org/
Mass Bike also has a ride listing here: http://www.massbike.org/newsevents/ride-listings/
Tweed rides seem to be announced either through the Boston Three Speed Club http://groups.google.com/group/boston-3-speed-bicycle-club and http://www.facebook.com/pages/Boston-3-Speed-Club/111076288923121 or on the Boston Tweed site here: http://bostontweed.blogspot.com/. Dan from the Boston Three Speed Club is also very active in the Boston Cyclist Union, so I think he posts rides in both places.
