You can carry your tree home by bike!
The guy at Home Depot was totally cool with it- He asked me if I needed help putting it on my car, and I said, nope, but I do need help putting it on my bike. He trussed the tree up, and then I strapped it on with a bungee brought for that purpose.
Handling was decent, though a bit wobbly at low speeds. I rode most of the way home on the bike path along the Charles, where fortunately I didn't meet many pedestrians, since I was taking up the whole path width.
Hope everyone is having a good lead up to the holidays!
Looks good.
ReplyDeleteSomeone, unaware of this blog, is going to wind up starting a photo blog documenting you, as a local 'character', carrying impossible cargo loads across Boston & Cambridge. CambridgeCycleCargoChic or something like that.
ReplyDeleteDarn it, and I was impressed with myself when I brought my tree home using my bike trailer. I'll consider myself one-upped.
ReplyDeleteOh no you didn't!! This is too cool : ))
ReplyDeleteRock on! I would give carrying my tree home by bike a try if it weren't an "investment" tree that is in a huge box in storage. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesomesauce!
ReplyDeleteTreecarryonize the planet!
ReplyDeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteAnd now you're on Universal Hub! I have to admit that when I saw the headline, I thought that it was either you or a friend of mine who did put his tree in his bike trailer. Bravo to both of you!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! My friend carried his home in a trailer, too.
ReplyDeleteI once brought one home in a shopping cart :)
ReplyDeleteyou should goto the netherlands! there everyone does everything (almost) by bike... even moving... we even have parking problems for bikes.. (http://biebkriebels.blogspot.com/2011/11/parking-problems.html)

This year's tree came home on the Burley flatbed. Was thinking about stringing some battery powered lights and taking the decorated tree out on the trailer to lead a tour of the lights in town
ReplyDeleteDoug- I have an extra set of battery powered lights, and thought (too late) that it would have been fun to put them on the tree while I was riding home. It was a bit of a last minute impulse purchase. I had already hit Target and Home Depot, and had full panniers, but they were almost sold out of trees, so I was afraid it was now or never, but wasn't sure if I could manage it without a trailer. I rode into the (nearly empty) yard center, hefted a tree, and then tossed it across the back and did a quick test. That didn't seem to be a problem, so off I went.
ReplyDelete@ Osric, anything with wheels would work- but it would be a long walk home for me (approx 3miles).
I am impressed!
ReplyDeletewhen I was a kid in NYC we often used an umbrella stroller to get ours home. It was lots of fun to walk over with the xmas tree and chinese take out to eat while we decorated it. Good times.
