Bike Accident

I suppose it was only a matter of time- but  wait it's not what you think!

I was walking back from picking up lunch, and was checking out a bike riding by.  I was wondering if the "carbon fiber" pattern of the fenders could possibly actually be carbon fiber, and why anyone would pay that much money for fenders,  when I stepped off the curb, and bam!

I guess I just misjudged the step, and caught my heel on the curb, and wham, I was down on one knee in the gutter.  I guess that will teach me to check out bikes while I walk!

  1. assuming that they were Berthoud fenders then, yes, it's likely that they were carbon fiber. Part of their specific appeal (aside from weight, of course, and carbon bling) is that the narrowness of the fender can make it easier to retrofit them onto bikes that don't have a lot of clearance. You won't get as much protection as with a full coverage plastic or stainless fender, but it's something.

sorry to hear about the scrape! those downtown curbs are taller than one thinks.

  2. Well they didn't look like those you linked to- they were wider and I think they had some kind of black plastic/ rubber tip, and the carbon pattern was finer grained.

  4. Ouch; heal up fast!
Funny thing, both my sister and I tipped over last week while starting (her on Tuesday) or stopping (me on Wednesday) our bikes and both ended up with bloody right knees.

  6. That doesn't count any more than the ankle owie I got while walking my bike through the living room in the predawn darkness and that has been taking its own sweet time to heal. Such things still hurt and you have my sympathy.

You can count yourself lucky that some camera didn't catch your whole sequence and then post it on Youtube as they did that lady with the cellphone that fell into the fountain.

  7. That is totally something I would do. Hubby and I joke that I should wear my bike helmet at home because of how clumsy as I am. Get some ointment on that and heal up soon!
